Position Title:  Upper School Instructional Science Faculty Member (Biology and/or Physics)

Date Modified:  February 2023      Start Date:  August 1, 2023

FLSA Classification:  Full-time – Exempt, 100% FTE, 10-month schedule of duties

Essential Responsibilities:  

  • Demonstrate commitment to, and expertise in, working with neurodiverse students

  • Develop and deliver high-quality, differentiated content in line with curricula of the school 

  • Collaborate with colleagues to create curriculum consistent with the school’s mission

  • Promote the school’s value of inclusion and acceptance

  • Provide formative and summative feedback on progress to students 

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation via Blackbaud  regarding student skills

  • Follow-up on parent communications within 24 hours

  • Liaise with and update advisors and learning specialists to support learning needs

  • Communicate with parents and other staff regarding student behavior and academics 

 

Additional Duties: 

  • Attend department, faculty, and grade-level meetings

  • Serve as a grade-level advisor

  • Advise/supervise a 6th Assignment- additional school responsibility such as leading a club, coaching a sport, etc.

  •  Serve as a chaperone for the Outdoor Education program, as required

  • Carry out supervisory duties during breaks, and lunch periods, as assigned

  • Provide cover for absent staff, when required

  • Participate in Professional Development as directed by leadership

  • Organize field trips and studies to support the curriculum

  • Abide by school policies and procedure

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in  education or science related subject; Master’s degree is preferred

  • Teaching experience in differentiated instruction and experience working with students with math disabilities 

  • Strong teaching ability and ability to connect with children and teens

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English. 

  • Strong verbal and written skills

  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Willingness and ability to work in a highly demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts

  • Ability and willingness to attend and work occasional overnight field trips

  • Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a campus

  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time

  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs

  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and work intermittently in outside weather conditions consistent with San Pedro weather
