DEAN of SCHOOL CULTURE PRIMARY FUNCTIONThe Dean of School Culture (Teacher Supports) is an experienced educator who is skilled in creating a strong school culture and sense of community. This Dean will be responsible for leading classroom management and professional development initiatives that will result in a positive school culture.
REPORTS TOMiddle School Director or High School Director
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT10 months; extended day (8:00am-5:00pm)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Ability to inspire others
- Experience in peer mediation and other conflict resolution methods
- Flair for innovative and creative behavior modification strategies
- Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
- Passion for working with middle/high school aged children
- Preference for bilingual candidate
- Proven strength in classroom management and discipline skills
RESPONSIBILITIES1. School Culture - Collaborate with the other Deans of School Culture (middle and high school) on a regular basis to establish school wide culture and outreach.
- Establish a positive, structured, and fun school culture.
- Motivate and guide students to become their best selves.
- Plan, design and implement a school-wide discipline plan.
- Research and develop character education plan to inform Advisory lessons.
2. Students: - Create, implement, and monitor individual behavior plans.
- Lead as the point person for discipline issues in the school.
- Plan and execute incentive programs, field trips, and activities.
- Track trends in behavior and develop interventions.
3. Teachers: - Create professional development opportunities for teachers regarding classroom management, community building, and school culture.
- Lead as the point person for classroom management issues in the school.
- Track trends in classroom management and develop interventions.
- Work with teachers to improve their practice with regards to classroom management, relationships with students, and school culture.
4. Parents: - Collaborate with parents to implement behavior plans.
- Establish strong parent-school relationships.
- Meet with parents regarding student behavior.
- Plan, develop, and execute parent workshops in collaboration with social workers.
5. Administrative: - Attend special school events (Talent Show, Prom, etc.).
- Create, maintain, and update accurate student records, documenting all aspects of the incidents and interventions.
- Participate in child study teams and referral process, as needed.
- Provide reports of incidents and interventions on a monthly basis.
- Supervise students during assemblies, breakfast, lunch, recess, transitions, detention, and suspension.
- Teach classes on an as needed basis.
