Job Description:
DEAN of SCHOOL CULTURE
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Dean of School Culture (Teacher Supports) is an experienced educator who is skilled in creating a strong school culture and sense of community. This Dean will be responsible for leading classroom management and professional development initiatives that will result in a positive school culture.
REPORTS TO
Middle School Director or High School Director
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
10 months; extended day (8:00am-5:00pm)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to inspire others
Experience in peer mediation and other conflict resolution methods
Flair for innovative and creative behavior modification strategies
Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
Passion for working with middle/high school aged children
Preference for bilingual candidate
Proven strength in classroom management and discipline skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. School Culture
Collaborate with the other Deans of School Culture (middle and high school) on a regular basis to establish school wide culture and outreach.
Establish a positive, structured, and fun school culture.
Motivate and guide students to become their best selves.
Plan, design and implement a school-wide discipline plan.
Research and develop character education plan to inform Advisory lessons.
2. Students:
Create, implement, and monitor individual behavior plans.
Lead as the point person for discipline issues in the school.
Plan and execute incentive programs, field trips, and activities.
Track trends in behavior and develop interventions.
3. Teachers:
Create professional development opportunities for teachers regarding classroom management, community building, and school culture.
Lead as the point person for classroom management issues in the school.
Track trends in classroom management and develop interventions.
Work with teachers to improve their practice with regards to classroom management, relationships with students, and school culture.
4. Parents:
Collaborate with parents to implement behavior plans.
Establish strong parent-school relationships.
Meet with parents regarding student behavior.
Plan, develop, and execute parent workshops in collaboration with social workers.
5. Administrative:
Attend special school events (Talent Show, Prom, etc.).
Create, maintain, and update accurate student records, documenting all aspects of the incidents and interventions.
Participate in child study teams and referral process, as needed.
Provide reports of incidents and interventions on a monthly basis.
Supervise students during assemblies, breakfast, lunch, recess, transitions, detention, and suspension.
Teach classes on an as needed basis.
