ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER (K-6)
 
                BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
 
Provides an educational program for students in grades K-6, or a combination thereof, and assists other school programs as assigned.
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.  Instructs students in reading and/or language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, physical education, art, music and other assigned areas of the curriculum, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.  The level of instruction will be based upon each student’s reasonable achievement expectancy.
 
2.  Facilitates the development of students in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study specified in the education code, board policies and administrative code and procedures of the district.
 
3.  Provides for student motivation through stimulating learning experiences.
 
4.  Develops appropriate plans and utilizes instructional materials in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
 
5.  Communicates with parents regarding student progress through a variety of means.
 
6.  Contributes to constructive relations between the school and community.
 
7.  Participates cooperatively with the principal to develop the mutually agreed upon criteria by which the teacher will be evaluated and assessed.
 
8.  Participates in curriculum development programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
 
9.  Increased professional competence through participation in school, district and self-selected in-service activities.
 
10.  Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior conducive to a functional learning atmosphere.
 
11.  All available resources should be used in student evaluation (criterion references teacher-made tests, standardized tests, teacher observations, student self-evaluations.
 
12.  Cooperates with other professionals in identifying and meeting the unique needs of students.
 
13.  Supports staff decisions regarding projects, programs and procedures.
 
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  (continued)
14.  Participates in a reasonable number of faculty committees and meetings.
 
15.  May plan and coordinate the work of Instructional Assistants.
 
16.  Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
 
17.  Ensures a comfortable and safe room environment through control of heating, lighting, ventilations and elimination of fire and other safety hazards to the extent possible.
 
18.  Abides by school board policies, administrative regulations, and education code.
 
19.  Carries out such other mutually agreed upon professional duties recognized to be in the best interest of children and the school organization.
 
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
 
1.  Creates, with assistance from students, a functional and attractive environment for learning.
 
2.  Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day such as field trips, yard duty, etc.
 
3.  Administers group tests in accordance with the school or district testing program.
 
4.  Equitably shares in the sponsorship of student activities such as student council, school dances, after school sports, etc.
 
5.  Selects books, instructional aids and supplies.
 
SUPERVISOR:
 
Under the immediate supervision of the site level administrator.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
1.  Credential:    Appropriate California teaching credential English Language Authorization (ELA, CLAD), NCLB Compliance
 
2.  Education:     Bachelor’s Degree
