Teacher - Elementary, Middle School, and Language Immersion

Students learn core content both in English and through language immersion in their choice of French, Spanish, Mandarin, or Russian.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate sound professional teaching and classroom management skills to facilitate learning.
• Help students read fluently, comprehend what they are reading, and learn phonetics, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and writing.
• Teach integrated Social Studies and Science units in conjunction with the immersion teachers.
• Use data analysis to monitor student achievement.
• Collaborate with other teachers including immersion teachers to ensure instruction is always meeting the needs of all learners.
• Carry out formal and informal assessments of student achievement.
• Integrate the assessments to design appropriate lesson planning and effective teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.
• Maintain accurate records of student academic and behavioral progress, attendance, test scores and personal information.

Minimum Requirements:

• BA or BS from an accredited College or University.
• PLACE or PRAXIS Certification in Education preferred.
• Background, training endorsement and/or certification in Early Childhood Literacy is preferred for Elementary Teachers.

Language Immersion Qualifications:

• You must possess native or near native fluency in either Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French or Russian to teach language, literature, writing and other core subjects to immersion students. 
• Non-English speaking teachers must become bilingual and be able to work effectively in a multi-ethnic setting. 
• Must have knowledge of literacy strategies in the native language and comply with the national standards for second language acquisition as outlined by ACTFL.
• Must be able to teach Colorado Academic Content Standards of mathematics, science and social studies at the appropriate grade level.
