JOB TITLE:  Secondary Special Education Teacher, 1.0 FTE

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB SUMMARY:  Provides specialized learning experiences to meet the unique needs of high school students with disabilities in a variety of supportive and positive learning environments.  Builds effective relationships with community partners to develop vocational, independent living and social skills of transition-aged students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  1. Hold or be eligible for Oregon Teaching Certification with Special Education endorsement.
  2. Ability to establish positive working relationships with students and staff from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree.
  2. Successful experience providing academic instruction and supports to students with disabilities in a variety of settings.
  3. Experience developing legally compliant Individual Education Plans.
  4. Experience conducting Functional Behavior Analyses and writing effective Behavior Support Plans.
  5. Ability to provide multi-tiered academic and behavior instruction and interventions.
  6. Experience providing post-secondary transition services to students 19-21 years old.
  7. Proficient in Trauma Informed Practices and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies.
  8. Proficient in the use of educational technology systems.
  9. Secondary endorsement in core curricular area.
  10. Willingness to work with extra-curricular activities.
  11. Spanish language skills.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Use multiple sources of information to develop a comprehensive understanding of students’ strengths and needs.
  2. Collaborate with school personnel and family members to systematically design specialized instruction for students with disabilities in identified areas of need.
  3. Work in partnership with school personnel to provide instructional and behavior supports for students with disabilities in a variety of settings.
  4. Establish and maintain a consistent, organized, respectful and effective learning environment.
  5. Monitor student progress regularly and provide written reports of progress toward IEP goals to parents in accordance with the District’s schedule.
  6. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, staff and families concerning students’ progress towards their individual goals.
  7. Serve as case manager for students eligible for special education and related services.
  8. Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190-day contract at 1.0 FTE.  Salary as per negotiated contract, with excellent benefit package.  Contingent on budget approval in the 2021-2022 budget.  Starting, August 2021.
