- Supervise and monitor children at all times.
- Communicate positively with infants/toddlers and encourage positive parent/child interaction.
- Participate in regularly communication with Teachers, Family Advocate, and Education Specialist, to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all content areas.
- Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency/illness situations that may occur.
- Coordinate with special needs staff in the classroom when indicated, developing a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom.
INDIVIDUALIZATION (5%)
- Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children identified with an IFSP individualized family service plans.
- Assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific interests, strengths and concerns.
CURRICULUM and ASSESSMENT (10–15%)
- Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans, which reflect mandated domains and elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, language, literacy, physical and cognitive development of Early Head Start children.
- Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans.
- Record Anecdotal note for each child on weekly basis.
- Prepare screening and assessments for each child.
- Follow a consistent time on task schedule, which includes small and large group, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, diapering/toileting, tooth brushing and effective transitions between activities.
- Encourage age-appropriate language, experimentation, exploration; stimulate imaginations, problem solving, self-regulation, socialization, and choice making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers, verbal & non verbal communication.
- Establish weekly goals that promote individual and group educational plans and include other Early Head start components.
- Prepare classroom materials to support developmentally age-appropriate curriculum plans, create and introduce new changes to the learning centers, as needed.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT & COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS (5-10%)
- Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.
- Communicate regularly with parents, regarding their child's progress.
- Maintain current and accurate records of family.
- Conduct the required three parent/teacher conferences and two home visits for the purpose of assessment and support, and parent’s input. Share information on classroom progress and educational strategies at school and at home.
- Help plan, conduct and attend regular parent meetings with team members.
- Work with appropriate agencies and Disabilities manager in developing specialized planning for children and families as needed.
- Contact parents/guardians regarding child incidents/accidents.
- Encourage parents to volunteer in classrooms to help increase opportunities for infants, toddlers, families to participate in family literacy services.
UTILIZE INFORMATION SYSTEMS to SUPPORT CHILD/FAMILY and AGENCY OUTCOMES. (10-15%)
- Document baselines, ongoing assessments in Teaching Strategies Gold and Child Plus, according to Federal 45-day time line and established agency timelines.
- Document, all significant classroom issues, parent contacts and home visits in Child Plus.
- Support Family Advocate in documentation regarding particular concerns with families and children at scheduled weekly staff meeting.
- Monitor and understand you are mandated to report child abuse.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (5-10%)
- Maintain classroom ratio 1:4, at all times.
- Build an effective and respectful relationship with your co-workers, supervisors and families.
- Assist with breaks, food service, promoting family style eating and event/activity monitoring and other classroom needs as requested.
- Attend meetings, trainings, workshops and appropriate professional staff development activities.
- Assure general maintenance and security of facility and assist with inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Submit classroom supply inventory and order for upcoming school year by last workday in May.
- Other duties as requested.
