SALARY RANGE: $78,220 - $86,365/year

POSITION SUMMARY: Overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and supervising educational service delivery for Skyline Academy, an intensive facility school/day treatment program at the Mental Health Center of Denver, serving students ages 6 to 14-years old in grades 1st through 8th.  Skyline Academy provides year-round services, with specialty social-emotional programming during the Summer. The approach of the team is characterized by being strengths-based, family-centered, culturally proficient and community responsive. Skyline Academy students require individualized educational plans within an adaptive and trauma-informed environment due to their specific learning and social-emotional needs. This position will supervise teachers and ensure that all students are receiving appropriate education services based written IEP accommodations. This position is also responsible for maintaining CDE compliance all work supervised.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of teachers.
  • Ensure that educational services are delivered appropriately and that all federal, state, and local educational requirements are met.
  • Assist Program Manager in the review of referrals and admission process for day treatment services.
  • Implement procedures for maintaining student records, notifying school districts of referral placement and discharge of students and complete all requirements for billing of educational and related services.
  • Monitor and update IEPs.  Work with school districts to ensure that IEPs meet all relevant standards and expectations.
  • Establish performance expectations with teachers and complete catalytic coaching in a timely way.
  • Develop training opportunities for teachers, in collaboration with the Program Manager and Unit Manager, to provide evidence-based services and curriculum.
  • Implement procedures for providing individual and group supervision for teachers that supports quality delivery of school curriculum and services.
  • Work closely with day treatment Program Manager, Unit Manager, and clinical staff to coordinate school and clinical services.
  • Work closely with Unit Manager to ensure collaboration between teachers and Mental Health Therapist 1s (MHTs) on the delivery of milieu services and instruction.
  • Ensure that all Colorado Department of Education Standards for facility schools are met and all reports are completed by their deadlines.
  • Serve as the Student Assessment Coordinator for WellPower and ensure that all standards and expectations are met for completion of state required assessments.
  • Maintain on-going collaboration and communication with external agencies as required to provide coordination of services and effective transition into and from the WellPower school program.
  • Serve as substitute teacher as needed during extended teacher absence.
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing.
  • Other duties as assigned.                                                                                             

Tuberculosis (TB) screening, testing  -  TB  screening and testing, is required and must be completed prior to hire ( i.e., preplacement), and maintained during employment.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in special education.  Current Colorado teacher’s license in good standing with special education endorsement or special education license required. Current administrator’s license with Director of Special Education endorsement preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Letter of Recommendation.
  • Physical and TB prior to start date
  • QMAP, CPR and First Aid Certifications within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) trained within 6 months of employment.

EXPERIENCE:  2 years teaching experience in a facility school program.  Supervisory experience preferred.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge or ability to learn and practice trauma informed principles and practices.
  • Ability to work with children with significant mental health needs. 
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and with a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of external agencies. 
  • Good organizational and administrative skills. 
  • Knowledge of facility school and special education regulations and IEP process. 
  • Ability to supervise education staff.
