Job Description:

TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

2023-2024 Academic School Year

         To continue to solidify the philosophy and foundations of Mexicayotl Academy   and keep working towards becoming a model school, the practices of   
      
professionalism, teamwork and cooperation, organization and follow through are essential.  The successful implementation of these duties and 
    expectations
 demonstrates but is not limited to showing a commitment toward making Mexicayotl Academy a school of excellence.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

                        Compliance:

  • Embrace the mission, values, and goals of Mexicayotl Academy.

  • Follow the procedure required for the daily reporting of student attendance to the Attendance Clerk as per state law.

  • Develop and submit curriculum maps, pacing guides, and complete lesson plans on a timely basis that aligns with the ADE’s requirements and Mexicayotl Academy’s dual-language and Intercultural model.

  • Post weekly grades on PowerSchool as scheduled and outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Submit complete quarterly grades for every subject taught to the registrar as scheduled.

  • Submit all paperwork required by the administrative office as requested.

  • Administer all assessments/evaluations as outlined in the Testing calendar or as specified by the administrator to guide instruction.

  • Administer all required assessments of new students within two weeks of their entry date.

  • Administer the school adopted Math, Reading (English and Spanish) placement assessments throughout the year as required to monitor academic achievement. 

  • Implement and monitor all classroom procedures for effective classroom management.

  • Comply with all in-services, professional development, training, and staff and parent meeting requirements.

  • Participate in ongoing reviews of the Exit Outcomes, and Pacing Guides as part of the instructional team.

  • Keep student assessment files complete and updated.

  • Post students’ assessment data on the server drive specified according to the testing calendar. All data must be up to date at the end of every quarter.

  • Keep a literacy-rich, clean, and organized classroom at all times. 

  • Clean and organize the level and classroom before checking out at the end of the school year.  This includes following proper procedure for discarding or putting away all items taken from the level (nothing left in the hallway).

  • Develop a student checkout process that will allow accountability for the level/classroom library throughout the school year.

  • Assume full responsibility for the inventory assigned to you.  (See inventory policy in the Employee Handbook)

  • PERFORM OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

                      - Arizona Elementary Certificate or Degree in Education with teaching experience.
                      - Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual, Spanish

                       justice and environmental experiences

                     
Time                   Commitment:

  •  Follow the daily teacher schedule as specified by the Principal.  The work day is 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM Monday thru Friday.

  • Comply with proper supervision plan/schedule of students: before school, during lunch/recess, and after school hours and all school programs.

  • Attend and participate in ALL school events:  intercultural celebrations, recruitment efforts, fundraisers, Open Houses, explorations, Parent-Teacher conferences, and graduation/transition ceremonies as specified in each academic year’s calendar or as scheduled.

  • Organize the level’s participation in intercultural celebrations, recruitment efforts, fundraisers, Open Houses, explorations, Parent-Teacher conferences, and graduation/transition ceremonies

 

                           Program Implementation:

  • Comply with training for the development and implementation of Mexicayotl Academy’s dual-language and Intercultural model. 

  • Effectively implement Mexicayotl Academy’s adopted teaching models and programs for the grade(s) assigned: Journeys/Senderos, Literacy Squared, Saxon Math, Nancy Larson Science, Accelerated Reading, etc. to assure that students meet the academic and character exit outcomes established for their grade and every student develops into a disciplined, respectful self-learner and critical thinker. 

  • Take every opportunity to link the topics of the scripted educational programs with Interculturalism so that the teaching lens is one that promotes social justice and critical thought. 

  • Implement data-driven instruction in all subjects taught.

  • Organize, coordinate, prepare, implement and evaluate at least one learning exploration linked to the curriculum before May of each academic year.

  • Implement and support procedures that result in effective classroom management.

  • Post daily standards-based learning objectives for each subject in the classroom where they can easily be seen by students and guests.

  • Provide a stimulating print-rich learning environment where students' work is represented and showcased regularly.

  • Provide a positive, nurturing, and academically stimulating learning environment for students.

 

                           Communication:

  • Keep parents, teachers, and Administrative Staff completely informed of all grade/classroom activities (including any out-of-class activities, guest speakers, special projects, etc.) by following established communication procedures.

  • Follow established home-school communication procedures as specified by the Principal.

  • Keep effective communication with all school personnel regarding all school issues.

 

                           Team Work:

  • Participate in effective and efficient teacher meetings as scheduled and needed to address all class/level needs and/or concerns.

  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of student exit criteria, expectations, instruction, procedures, schedules, and evaluations.

  • Collaborate in organizing, implementing (attending/participating), and evaluating the plans for the class/level’s explorations.

  • Coordinate with co-teacher(s) to develop, implement and support complete supervision for all level activities (including lunch/recess).

  • Follow and support discipline procedures and expectations in the classroom, all lineups, lunch/recess, breaks, school grounds, explorations, etc. 

  • Organize, prepare and supervise the assigned grade’s participation in all school events. 

  • Supervise all class/level/grade activities.

  • Respond effectively to all class/level needs.

  • Collaborate with all school members to keep all common areas clean and organized.
