JOB DESCRIPTION
Morongo Unified School District
 
SECONDARY CLASSROOM TEACHER
 
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
 
As part of a secondary assignment, teaches one or more classes in a credential appropriate area, to students in grades 7-12, and assists in other school programs as assigned.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  1. Teaches courses in one of the core areas to secondary students utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
  2. Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in education and administrative code and procedures of the school district.
  3. Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids.
  4. Demonstrates core concepts using models, interactive technology, computers, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  5. Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  6. Designs learning activities that will relate core concepts to the physical world, to include project-based learning.
  7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  8. Evaluates each student’s progress in core knowledge and skills, and prepares progress reports.  May prepare letters of recommendation for scholarships, college applications, etc.
  9. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
 
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
 
  1. Selects and requisitions books, technology, instructional aids, and instructional supplies.
  2. Communicates with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching and with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual student’s progress.
  3. Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  4. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  5. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
 
SUPERVISOR:
 
Under the immediate supervision of the site level administrator.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Credential:  Appropriate California Teaching Credential
  2. Education:  Bachelor’s Degree

Job Requirements:

Must hold or qualify for a CA teaching credential in Math, Social Science, English, Art, or Physical Education.
