School for Friends is a small community based school that has been serving the District of Columbia- Maryland and Virginia families for 40 years. Since 1981, we have been providing a high-quality, caring, and supportive educational environment for children and families, implementing research-based best practices. We are committed to creating a diverse school community focusing on the Quaker values of cooperation, equality, and nonviolence. We encourage all aspects of a child's development - social, emotional, physical, and cognitive - in a setting that is safe, welcoming, and engaging. We help the children develop positive concepts and understand others from different cultural and economic backgrounds. We are committed to the inclusion of children with various learning abilities. SFF has a team of consultants for curriculum, professional development, and children with different needs. We are open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, year-round. Hours are modified during the pandemic.
We are a member of the Friends Council on Education. We are licensed by the District of Columbia and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We have received numerous awards and recognition in our over 39-year history.
Job description
*The Lead Teacher is responsible for supervising the classroom, including the children and the teaching team.
* Implementing the Creative Curriculum
* Observing and tracking children's developmental progress including children with different needs
* Working in a team of educators to create lesson plans, write classroom blogs, and newsletters
* Clear and consistent communication with families and peers
