Special Education Regional Coordinator
Job Description
The job duties and responsibilities of a special education coordinator involve supporting schools with the development and implementation of special education programs. In addition the role of the coordinator is to support with federal and state special education compliance guidelines.
Essential Duties:
· Coordinating and assuring full state and federal compliance with all aspects of programming (identification, review, dismissal) for students with disabilities per the IDEA, state guidelines and the ADA
· Facilitating in the development and implementation of informal academic and behavioral intervention programs for individual students.
· Preparing and reporting accurate and timely data for internal and external regulatory purposes
· Providing direct special education services, as needed, and supervising itinerant service providers
· Support staff in developing service schedules
· Support the application of appropriate accommodations/modifications for identified students.
· Support and enhance the use of assistive technology to increase access to the general curriculum and reduce the impact of identified students’ disabilities.
· Support the philosophy and mission of Imagine Schools Special Education Department.
· Comply with all school and department policies, rules and regulations.
· Be an integral member of the Imagine Special Education Administrative Team.
· Visit weekly with special education teachers (Schedules will be developed based on school needs)
· Meet with general education and special education teachers to help interpret and produce special education documentation requirements.
· Assist in the planning and conducting of workshops and other in-service programs to help raise the level of understanding of instructional strategies and compliance requirements for students with disabilities.
· Assist in the scheduling, coordination and implementation of district and state assessments.
· Recommend ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of students with disabilities; ensure compliance with general education accommodations.
· Assist with the creation of current special education support guides and materials to be distributed among the instructional staff and building administration.
· Help building level teams understand requirements in Individualized Education Programs and adherence to Special Education Policies and Procedures.
· Provide mentorship to new teachers
· Oversee special education caseload lists to ensure compliance with state and federal timelines
· Travel throughout Arizona is required to support schools
· Other duties as assigned
