MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL PRIMARY FUNCTIONThe Assistant Principal is an experienced educator who is skilled in creating a strong school culture and sense of community. The Assistant Principal will be responsible for leading classroom management and professional development initiatives that will result in a positive school culture.
REPORTS TO Middle School Principal
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT10 months; extended day
RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead grade level team leaders
- Meet weekly with grade level
- Lead Response To Intervention (RTI)
- Leading School Culture
- Daily morning and afternoon check-ins with Principal
- Coordinate testing schedules with regents
- Respond to School Culture
- Monitoring the House System
- Coordinating Activities
- Monitoring Level 3 & 4 behaviors
- Supporting Students and School Culture
- Bi-weekly meetings with Student Government (lunch or after school)
- Bi-weekly meeting with Cabinet and SGA Officers
- No students in halls and offices – “Walk and Talk; This is an institution of learning, not socialization”
SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Demonstrate good judgment and good problem-solving skills
- Direct and instruct others
- Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions
- Inspire trust with students, parents, and colleagues
- Make independent decisions
- Organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks
- Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive student management program which leads to a positive school culture
- Respond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting
- Work autonomously within school established guidelines and policies
- Work effectively with staff, students, and public
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Ability to inspire others
- Experience in peer mediation and other conflict resolution methods
- Flair for innovative and creative behavior modification strategies
- Minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
- Passion for working with middle/high school aged children
- Preference for bilingual candidate
- Proven strength in classroom management and discipline skills
