History St. Anthony School is a public, college preparatory school, located in the heart of Fair Park, a historically underserved neighborhood in the southern sector of Dallas. In the past, the school was operated as a private Catholic School under the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas. However, due to the recent economic downturn, the lack of traditional donors and lack of ability by parents to pay tuition, starting school year 2003-04 (September 1, 2003), St. Anthony School became a Charter School. Becoming a Charter School allows more children from the community to be served and provides for more long term stability and viability of the school.
Mission and Values The school’s mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who make better decisions for themselves and the world through intercultural understanding and respect. This is achieved by creating an environment based upon rigorous academics, innovative instruction, parent and community involvement, and a constant focus on the core values of integrity, inquiry, choices, and reflection. Every student has unique educational needs and goals, and St. Anthony School programs offer the flexibility and high expectations to empower all students to succeed. While the school is no longer affiliated with the Catholic Diocese, character development remains a key operational value as demonstrated by the school motto, "My Choices...My Character".
Curriculum and Programs The school offers classes for grades K-8. St. Anthony School is authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for its elementary grades and is dedicated to changing the lives of students through a strong academic curriculum. The (IB) Primary Year Programme is the basis of school's core curriculum. The school serves 310 students in kindergarten through eighth grade (ages 5-14). Class size ranges from 15 to 23 students. Our student population is predominately African American and 80% of students are economically disadvantaged as measured by participation in the federal free and reduced lunch program.
Accomplishments As one of a handful of IB World Schools in Texas, St. Anthony School has been rated by Texas Education Agency as an “Exemplary” school district. No Child Left Behind recognized 100% of teachers as highly qualified. Eighty-three percent (83%) of students are meeting grade level standard on STAAR and 65% of students from the Class of 2014 were accepted into college preparatory school programs.
