Our School: Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) is the largest independently-operated free public charter school in Newark, NJ. MPTCS was established in 1999 by a group of individuals who were born and raised in Newark and wanted to provide the best possible educational experience for the next generation of Newarkers. The school is one of the only minority-led charter schools in Newark, reflecting both its student population and the community it serves. Since 1999, MPTCS l has grown from four classrooms to four campuses and now serves 1,500 students from prekindergarten through the 12^th grade.

 All New Jersey charter schools are open to local residents on a   

space-available basis. MPTCS participates in the One Newark open enrollment system.

Our Mission:    By every means necessary, our mission is to become a 21st century village that is responsive to the needs of students, parents, and the Newark community at large, where scholars are college and career ready, globally aware, and fully equipped to lead in an evolving society.

 From Crayons to College: AMPTCS offers a seamless educational experience from “crayons to college,” giving Newark  residents  the opportunity to stay within one school system for their entire public educational career from prekindergarten to 12^th grade
