Harlem Children’s Zone, Inc (HCZ) is a multi-site, multi-program community organization that provides a unique and comprehensive interlocking network of education, social and health services, and recreation to more than 24,000 children and adults in Central Harlem. Our top-performing K-12 charter schools, Promise Academy is within HCZ’s cradle-to-career pathway of comprehensive, no-cost services. Nationally and internationally recognized for its early and progressive intervention programs, HCZ has been lauded by The New York Times as “one of the most ambitious social-policy experiments of our time.”

Since the opening of HCZ Promise Academy I in 2004 and HCZ Promise Academy II in 2005, we’ve made an enormous impact on our young people. We’ve enrolled nearly 100% of our scholars in college; we’ve closed the Black-white achievement gap; and we’ve helped our graduates build successful careers and become conscientious citizens. HCZ’s high standards and expectations are the same for all of its children—ensuring that all of them are on track to attend college and successfully graduate with degrees.
