School District 54 is the largest elementary school district in Illinois with 28 schools and more than 15,000 students from seven communities. The District 54 promise is ensuring the success of the whole child. The district serves limited English proficient students who speak 92 different languages. The district is home to eight U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools. Collaborative decision-making is an important value of the district. Site-based management is being undertaken through school leadership teams. Our nearly 1,100 teachers are supported by social workers, psychologists, technology facilitators, gifted resource teachers, literacy coaches and other specialists to meet students' needs.
