The Brockton Public Schools is the fourth largest district in the state, providing quality education to approximately 17,000 students in grades pre-K to 12. The only public school system in Brockton, its diverse, urban population of students face myriad socio-economic challenges: 77.9% are in low income families; 78.2% are non-White; 36.9% speak English as a second language; 12.8% have disabilities; and 354 students are homeless. The district’s programs are housed in 24 buildings with focused learning and academic support for special needs, talented and gifted, bilingual and physically challenged students. The district has twelve elementary schools, one early education school (pre-K and K), one Grade K to 8 school, six middle schools (Grades 6 to 8), one large comprehensive high school (4,860 students), two alternative schools (Grades 9 to 12 and 5 to 12), a therapeutic day school (Grades 3 to 12), and an adult learning center.
