Our History
          
Community Life Center Inc. (the “Agency”) was organized in 1944 and incorporated in 1950 to provide health, education, and social welfare services to the children of the Mount Morris Park area.
 
Instituted during the Second World War, Community Life Center and the Mt. Morris Children Center provided care for 160 children, five days per week for working mothers.
It continues these services.
 
In 1965, Community Life Center operated a summer Head Start Program.  It was the challenge of the article in the New York Times, describing the difficulty in obtaining licensable space in Harlem for Head Start that was the impetus for the present Community Life Center Inc. Development Center.  The basic idea was to find a way to release the total creative energy to the community, and of each organization involved in the project, to educate, to make decisions, and to arouse interest, to create an environment to get action, to provide a “Head Start” for our children.
 
Our Mission Statement
 
We want to supply a framework of rich educational experiences for children and their families by creating an atmosphere that is warm and friendly where learning can take place.
 
We will provide comprehensive services to families, especially young children, in the Greater Harlem community.
