Company Description:

The mission of Townsend Harris High School is to foster a love of learning, to instill the habit of inquiry, and to promote an awareness of beauty in nature and in the arts. We expose our students to multiple perspectives so that they will be able to appreciate various points of view. We enable our students to achieve their potential and to become articulate and responsible adults who respect others and are productive members of our society. We prepare our students for ethical and intellectual challenges, by providing rigorous Humanities, Classics, Math, Science, Art, Music, and Physical Education programs that are enriched by the integration of current technology. 

Townsend Harris High School was ranked #1 school in New York and ranked #5 in Nation by US News & World Report this year.

Our instructional program promotes respect for people and ideas, critical and creative thinking, and precision of language that prepares each student to be college and career ready. We encourage our students to strive for excellence, to make sensible decisions, and to develop an enduring commitment to serving the community.

We seek to graduate talented and motivated students who reflect the diversity of our city, become lifelong learners, and make meaningful contributions to the world. We enable our students to achieve their potential and to become articulate and responsible adults who respect others and are productive members of our society.

SOME HIGHLIGHTS:

• All Townsend Harris classes are Honors Level, Advanced Placement or College Level. We currently offer 23 Advanced Placement classes.  

• All students take Queens College courses, (12 FREE college credits) during their senior year.

• We are also very proud to have one of the very few Social Science Research programs in the city! We offer research-based education designed to make you think like a psychologist, sociologist, politician, or an outstanding college candidate. Our students reach city, state, and national levels every year.

• Each student engages in 40 or more hours of community service each year fulfilling their commitment to the Ephebic Oath “to leave our city greater and better than we found it.”

• Extracurricular Program:  We have over 30 athletic teams and over 50 clubs and activities.

​Townsend Harris is also proud to provide an inclusive educational program for eligible students with disabilities. We offer a full ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) program for the four core classes, and embed specially designed instruction into our curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.These supports are provided in our rigorous general education classes, all of which are Honors or AP level.
