Company Description:

Birmingham Community Charter High School (formerly Birmingham High School) is a public coeducational in a neighborhood/district in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles, California. On July 1, 2009, the LAUSD Board of Education voted to allow the high school to become a charter school under the name Birmingham Community Charter High School. It was founded in 1953 as a 7–12 grade combined high school, and became solely a senior high school in 1963.

As a charter school, we have increased autonomy that will help inspire our creative spirit, allowing students and staff to perform at high levels and our community to be more actively involved in our growth and progress. Birmingham remains committed to serving students who reside in the district, pupils previously enrolled at our school as well as others who wish to attend (subject to capacity). Prospective students and parents are invited to “check us out.”

 

Academics
Birmingham Community Charter High School offers students a full range of subjects in its academic curriculum. All students study a core curriculum of Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages. There is also a Deaf and Hard of Hearing program. In addition, Elective classes in a variety of subjects are offered, including music, drama, and the visual arts. The school is in the process of transitioning from Small Learning Communities to Grade Level Academies:

• 2019 Grade Level Academy (MASH, Media, PVA, Tech & Business and CAL) 
• 2020 Grade Level Academy (11th Grade) 
• 2021 Grade Level Academy (10th Grade) 
• 2022 Grade Level Academy (9th Grade)
