School Profile British school of Zanzibar is a Nursery and primary school (Social enterprise) established in 2007 which is registered by Ministry of Education and vocational training under License No. RPS 279, located at Kisauni behind Zanzibar Airport 15km from stonetown. The aim of starting this project is to have international school within the Zanzibaris community and set reasonable price to cover school cost which will open door to local people afford with the range of pupils, but also to fund and maintain 20% of the school enrollment as orphan/less privileged children which will be free studying as they will be provided with instruction in values, morals and practical solutions, which will enhance the quality of their lives and give them the tools they need to succeed in future, we believe in investing in them by providing love, care, education, training and leadership. At the moment school has 65 students, 60 fee paying and 6 orphans/less privileged of the school enrolment from Nursery, Reception, Grade 1 to Grade 6. Total staff are 22 including the management. Our school has been designed and built with environmental care and sustainability in mind. Solar panels have been installed to fuel the water pump, connected to our on-site well. We have plans to eventually rely entirely on solar power, as well as to install a rain water catchment system that will allow us to be fully self-reliant and sustainable, without having to tap into the precious resources of our beautiful island home. Our next project is to construct a rooftop garden which will provide natural insulation from heat and light, and allow students to grow fruits and vegetables for consumption. We aim to lead by example and guide our students to develop an increased sense of stewardship and responsibility for their environment, as well as provide hands-on experience to reinforce themes taught in the classroom.
